SO I know it has been a little while since I have posted but not as long as other times so I should be good. I got this phone while I was on a trip with my mom to my new city to live. That is right, I am moving. That has something to do with why it took me so long to read this book. Now when I started it, I read like 5 pages and put it down. I picked it up a couple of days later and read like a quarter of the book and then went to bed and waited until the next night to read some more. Mind you, I didn’t start reading again until after 10 pm because I didn’t think I would stay up more than an hour but I stayed up until 230 am and finished the book. Why? The book had me in its grips that much. Just a heads up, if you want to read this book in the future, my post is going to have lots of spoilers. If you don’t want to know, stop reading and just know that this is a really good book, especially if you like political intrigue.
So first off, the book says it’s about a competition between twins to see if who will be the next ruler of Eden after the king and heir to the throne is assassinated. Well that starts like halfway through the book. The big plot behind this story is the twins and their relationship. The girl is by far my favorite. She has her flaws but she honestly cares for her twin brother who has seizures, something she and her mother have kept secret for years. The reason is because of a prophecy that was made the day that the twins were born. One of them is cursed and if was let to live, they would bring darkness to the kingdom. They think the boy twin is the cursed one because of the seizures.
So now that you know the bases of what the synopsis doesn’t tell you, I want to talk about how stupid the boy twin is. He has been pushed aside for so long by his father and all he wanted was some validation for his existence that when the first pretty face told him that she loved him, he started to believe her over the sister who had taken beating and whippings to keep his secret safe. He believed his older brother’s fiancé, who he had fallen for before she became his brother’s fiancé. The point that really got me was that it only took a couple of lies to turn the male twin against his sister. Seriously, it really made me mad that this happened. Because of this, I believe that the male is the cursed one. He is cursed because he is the one that has given in to darkness, not jealously and corruption. For God’s sake, he had a kid killed to prove that he should be the on throne that was the tipping point. Not only that, he tried to kill his sister when she was helping him, even after everything pointed to her killing his one true love (the seductress that is his brother’s fiancé). It really really bugged me that the brother was that easily turned and for me, there is no redemption with him. I really hope that the girl twin does take out her brother in the end.
Now that being said, there is a secret that the girl twin didn’t know about. She is technically the cursed on, according to her mother. She can manipulate the wind to do what she wants. That doesn’t seem like a curse to me if she knows how to control it. But because there are now outside forces working in connection with this competition and for the throne, I think there is more going on than the author wants us to know. This is the first book in a series or trilogy (don’t know) and so far the author has only shown up Eden. The girl twin gets help from 2 foreign dignitaries who both seem to know about something her that she doesn’t. They help her fake her death so she can learn her abilities and leave Eden to find help. She has every intention to return and win the competition from her brother, who left her to die and now thinks he has won the throne.
So I am going to end this with this. I will definitely be reading the next book of this series, as I want to know what will happen between the twins. I really hope that the brother sees that he was wrong and justice prevails. I want him to understand exactly how stupid and destructive his decisions were and that he had everything he needed and him living is because of his sister. I really hate this guy. Well see you next book.
Let's enjoy the many worlds there are to enjoy, in just our own heads.
